Benefits of Biochar Addition in a Sustainable Agriculture Practice: Soil Nutrients Dynamics, Enzyme Activities and Plant Growth

چکیده
Biochar is a carbon-rich material resulting from the pyrolysis of plant and animal biomass. has long history as soil amendment for centuries since Mayan civilization. Attaining sustainability in agriculture not easy; however, addition biochar may reduce adverse effects numerous malpractices conventional agriculture. benefits physicochemical properties such bulk density, aggregate stability, porosity, water holding capacity organic carbon content. However, it essential to focus on negative aspects terms atmospheric emissions during production occupational health safety at time use. Still, there are many detriments application biochar, i.e., priming effect; thus, this review highlights importance further research amendment. It been understood that lack long-term field studies various soils using commercially produced restrict knowledge biochar's true potential effect nutrient dynamics, microbial structure, crop yield.

Plant microbiomes and sustainable agriculture
B acteria had been around long before multi-cellular eukaryotes evolved and quickly began to colonize these new life forms as another suitable habitat and potential source of nutrients. Nearly all higher organisms across taxa now have bacterial communities living on and within them—from mutually beneficial symbioses to antagonistic parasitic conflicts. They have co-evolved with their microbiota...
متن کاملContrasting effects of biochar versus manure on soil microbial communities and enzyme activities in an Aridisol.
Biochar can increase microbial activity, alter microbial community structure, and increase soil fertility in arid and semi-arid soils, but at relatively high rates that may be impractical for large-scale field studies. This contrasts with organic amendments such as manure, which can be abundant and inexpensive if locally available, and thus can be applied to fields at greater rates than biochar...
متن کاملSynergisms between Compost and Biochar for Sustainable Soil Amelioration
Driven by climate change and population growth, increasing human pressure on land forces conversion of natural landscapes to agricultural fields and pastures while simultaneously depleting land currently under agricultural use (Lal, 2009). Consequently, a vicious circle develops; further aggravating climate change, soil degradation, erosion, loss of soil organic matter (SOM) and leaching of nut...

The latter two principles protect the soil resource on which all food and fibre production ultimately depends. However, agricultural production systems differ from ‘natural’ or undeveloped systems in that they can be considered to be ‘leaky’ with respect to nutrients. This is inevitable, due to nutrient removal in harvested product, but inappropriate fertiliser management can exacerbate the ‘le...
متن کاملEffect of biocontrol strains of Trichoderma on plant growth, Pythium ultimum polulations, soil microbial communities and soil enzyme activities.
Five strains of Trichoderma with known biocontrol activities were assessed for their effect upon pea growth and their antagonistic activity against large Pythium ultimum inocula. The effect of Trichoderma inocula upon the indigenous soil microflora and soil enzyme activities in the presence and absence of Pythium is assessed. In the absence of Pythium, Trichoderma strain N47 significantly incre...
